The benefits of Shopify for student startups

We know that starting a company on a limited budget can pose a tough challenge for any business. Especially as many founders haven’t yet got vast experience in running a business. Our founder, Dan, started Web Wise when he was still studying at the University of Exeter, so if anyone, he can relate.

To support the transition from being a full-time student to heading up a company, we do a lot of work with students to pass on the knowledge learnt from being an Exeter entrepreneur.

Why is Shopify great for students?

Low cost

Building a bespoke website from scratch can be a long and costly process at the early days of a business, but having your online presence is still crucial. We encourage student startups to think about minimal site designs to start with and grow from there. With Shopify, you can create a world-class website and online shop for only ~£20 a month.

Professional design

There are no limitations on “design” with Shopify. If you have a web developer on board, you’ll get full control over the look and feel of your site, so you can have branding that is as awesome as the big players out there. Did you know that Red Bull, Gymshark and even Kyle Cosmetics are boosting their sales with Shopify? The scalability is amazing.

If you’re not a design expert, don’t worry, there are numerous free templates available on the website. Unlimited changes, products, pages, blog post mean you can dabble and play as much as you like until you find a model that works.

You can choose from 10 free themes and customise them to your needs

Great customer experience

Shopify stores are easy to set up and the navigation on the site is straightforward. Filters, such as product type, size or colour help shoppers quickly find what they are looking for. We know, anything that makes it easy for customers to find the right product, will help with early sales.

With the inventory tracking option, you don’t have to let your clients down by showing unavailable items. Once the product is gone, you can temporarily hide it, so visitors only see products that are in stock.

With Shopify, you always have up-to-date information about your inventory
