Introducing Luana

Hi, I’m Luana and I work in Digital Marketing and Design alongside my Medical Science degree. I know what you’re thinking, why am I working in Marketing when I’m studying at the Medical School… It’s the first question I get at interviews, so let me explain. My passion lies in Public Health and Marketing, essentially marketing is used to persuade people to buy something, whether it’s a product or a service, however it’s also used to persuade and change people’s behaviour. I believe in reconnecting people with the ownership of their own health and educating people on the basic principles of their health, to help them stay healthy and prevent disease. In my degree we learn about fascinating groundbreaking research which is extremely complex at times, however no one knows about it or is able to understand it outside of our field, what good is anything if no one knows about it?
I am also extremely creative and love communicating, so the answer for me was obvious with Marketing and Design. The goal is to have a business in the health industry. I am one of those people that wants to do a bit of everything, and having my own company means I have to do exactly that. To make the world a healthier and happier place through empowering people with knowledge is at the core of what I do.
Aside from that, I am a HUGE foodie, this led me to set up my own food website where I share recipes and my photos. I’ve always loved food and I am always experimenting new recipes that are delicious, I also enjoy trying to make healthy filling meals on a budget to take with me to Uni or work, I find it a very useful skill to share with others as it helps us stay healthy even when we are busy. The process of taking the photos for my website is equally as satisfying as developing the recipes, from the setup to the editing of the photos. This website was how I ended up discovering digital marketing and design, I had to learn how to create my website, what SEO is and lots of other fun stuff. It’s a great creative outlet for me, but I have to admit I have been too busy to give it much attention over the last few months. On top of my degree I have 4 jobs… did I mention I like to be busy? Many people think I’m crazy, but I love what I do and I am always looking to learn more, and Web Wise Media seems like the right place to be right now.
I come from a multinational family, probably the best conversation starter ever is when I get asked where I’m from. My aim in life is to have as many citizenships as possible (current score is 3). I grew up in Switzerland, New Zealand and the UK, but I’m also very Italian thanks to my father. Moving around has been so beneficial to me, I learnt many languages and it’s helped me integrate and understand cultural differences. It’s also made me really embrace change and not fear it, meaning I grasp all opportunities thrown at me.
From me you can expect blog posts on helping bring balance into your busy life, breaking down the sciency stuff which could prove beneficial to you, how to look after yourself to avoid burnout and ways to increase your productivity and how stuff works in marketing and beyond.
